Inclement Weather Policy

 Inclement Weather Guidelines:

Determining a weather policy for West Michigan for all scenarios is challenging! Because Allegan County is so large and because weather conditions can change rapidly, it’s hard to limit our decision-making on any one factor. Given that reality, here are the steps you’ll need to take when deciding your attendance of a Burnips Wesleyan Church event:

1. Look out the Window: The most important factor to consider is your own local weather. If your local conditions are hazardous or are not favorable, then you need to make a prudent decision based on that (regardless of the forecast or church schedule). However, if Burnips weather and travel conditions are satisfactory, the Sunday event will likely continue.

2. Look at the Forecast: The following weather advisories within one hour prior to an event may impact our schedule: Tornado Watch, Tornado Warning, Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Winter Storm Warning and Blizzard (or other Snow-related) Warning.

3. Check the BWC Message:  If the forecast or conditions appear to be unfavorable, we have several ways that you can find out whether a schedule has changed based on the weather:

Church Telephone Voice Mail: Call the church telephone and select “0” from the menu (ministry schedule updates based on the latest weather conditions). We’ll try to have this updated by 7:30 on Sunday mornings.

Church website: Look for a message on our church website: www.burnipswesleyan.com

TV & Radio: Look for updates on WOOD-TV (Ch 8), WZZM-TV (Ch 13) and WCSG-FM (91.3). (these stations also have websites with update info as well).
